The Bible teaches that baptism is the first step of obedience after deciding to follow Jesus. Baptism is going public with your faith and showing your love and commitment to Him.
Baptism is an exciting external act that symbolizes a life-changing internal commitment. It is a symbol of an individual’s personal relationship with God, made possible by the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Baptism does not save a person or guarantee a person’s salvation; rather, baptism is a way of publicly identifying oneself with Christ. Anyone who has placed his/her faith in Christ is encouraged to take this pivotal step of “going public” as a follower of Jesus.
Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”
