Edmund Hillary climbed Mount Everest, in 1953. Scientists explore space using the Hubble telescope. Only in the last two years has someone been able to use technology to explore the deepest part of the ocean. All of them speak to the greatness and glory of God. Jesus often used everyday objects and experiences to teach His followers the truths of God: the kingdom of God is like seeds being sown in four different kinds of soil; we are like lost sheep that the shepherd will search everywhere to find. What is God saying when we look at the highest mountain, the farthest star, and the deepest ocean? Climb the mountain; can you touch the sky? Explore the universe; will you ever reach the end of it? Dive to the depths of the ocean; can you touch the bottom? How high and long and deep and wide is the love of God. For you.
Psalms 95:4-5 NIV
In his hand are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to him. The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land.
Ephesians 3:18 NIV
may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ
