“You catch more bees with honey.” It’s an old saying, but we remember old sayings because they are very often true. What does this mean to a follower of Christ? We are not to please people in anything that is contrary to the Gospel of Christ, nor in anything that is of an immoral nature; but in everything that is good, as it concerns their relationship with God, we should study to please the people we meet. Jesus said we are to love our neighbors as ourselves. It looks different for each person. Does your neighbor need help raking leaves? Does your coworker need a non-work-related chat over coffee? We can’t all do great things, Mother Theresa said, but we can all do small things with great love. Just as bees are small and often unnoticed, what often makes the greatest impact on another person are the small things.
Romans 15:2 NIV
Each of us should please our neighbors for their good, to build them up.
