The famed(ish) philosopher Ferris Bueller once said, “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.” The world is moving at great speed and we are constantly moving just to keep up. But how much of our energy is actually spent on diversions? Distractions seek to divert our attention from worry and sadness, but in reality, they end up causing us trouble. At the end of the day, we are more stressed. Ultimately, our relationships suffer – the greatest of which is our connection with God. This verse reminds us that we need to avoid useless distractions, slow down and focus on what really matters. If we are in pursuit of anything other than what would glorify God, our efforts are in vain. Let’s not miss the truly meaningful aspects of life by wasting our energy on the insignificant.
