God’s grace shines brightest in dark places … like pits. Daniel was thrown into a pit of hungry lions. Joseph’s brothers put him in a pit, bound for slavery. Paul’s pit was a Roman prison. Job’s was one of grief and loss. But these biblical heroes had developed a lifestyle of turning to God in their pits of desolation … they remembered the Lord and turned to Him for help, comfort, release—grace. Your pit may be the black hole of sin and separation from God. Or perhaps you’ve dug an emotional or spiritual hole for yourself because of broken relationships or rejection. Loneliness, shame, and regrets have shoveled your pit to greater depths, and there you are—at the bottom of an abyss. A cry of dependence, submission, and repentance in your dark places lights the lamp of God’s grace. Call to God in your pit and let His amazing grace shine on you.
Psalms 40:2 NIV
He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.
