Small choices make a big difference. The way you live your life may not be heroic or extraordinary, but if it’s lived well it will have a lasting impact. What will this world be like if we don’t do our part?
Home Alone tells the story of Kevin, an 8-year-old boy who gets separated from his family and left at home while they travel to France for Christmas. At first, Kevin enjoys his freedom – ordering pizza, jumping on the beds, watching anything he wants on TV. But he soon realizes that this world can be a dangerous place and he longs to be reunited with his family. Meanwhile, his mom is desperately trying to get to him and reunite him with his family. She even goes so far as to travel in a moving truck with a Polka Band from Scranton! The truth is that all of us have been separated from our Heavenly Father by our sin… life without God seems fun – at first, but most people eventually realize that this world can be a scary, lonely place. All the while, our Heavenly Father is seeking us; desperately desiring to bring us home. (Colossians 1:19-23)
Elf is the story of Buddy – a baby who was born in an orphanage, stowed away in Santa's sack and ended up at the North Pole. As an adult, he sets off to New York City in search of his biological father. As believers, we are “citizens of a different kingdom” and we are called to live by a different set of values. If we feel like we don’t fit in – that’s a good thing! 2 Corinthians 5:1-9
Your past doesn’t have to define your present or determine your future. Jesus brings hope. Redemption is possible. Your past doesn’t have to last. Allow Jesus to forgive the past, join the present and forge a new future.
