Someone posted a photo on Facebook recently of a gorgeous family dining table. Sun from a nearby window glistened off its smooth, unblemished surface. The table hadn’t begun as a thing of beauty. The post explained how the owner purchased a raw slab of wood, rough-hewn, splintered, dull. He scraped, sandpapered, rubbed and polished the nondescript board into a magnificent piece of furniture to service his family. The work of God’s Spirit in us moves in the same way. He uses abrasive things like illness, broken relationships, and hardship to sand off our splinters and edges and present us as shining reflectors of His work, ready to serve those around us. No board ever threw off the hand of its Creator to follow its own desires. Proof of God’s Spirit at work in us is our desire to submit to the will and workmanship of our Creator as He sands and molds His image of beauty in us.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 NIV
Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.
Ephesians 2:10 NIV
For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
