What can we help you find?

According to the world’s social norm, greatness and power lie with those who rule. Billions of dollars are spent every year on political campaigns aimed at swaying voters and we are bombarded daily with news regarding world leaders. Prominence is achieved by control; it is human nature to yearn for power. Even the disciples enter into a debate, arguing which of them was going to be considered the greatest. However, Jesus responds by saying we are not to be like the leaders of this world, seeking riches and influence by domination. Instead, He calls us to quiet servitude, explaining that the greatest in the Lord’s eyes are those who humble themselves to serve others. There is none greater than the Son and He describes Himself in this passage as ‘one who serves’. In this power-centric society, how can we humble ourselves in service for our community?

Luke 22:24-27 NIV
A dispute also arose among them as to which of them was considered to be greatest. Jesus said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and those who exercise authority over them call themselves Benefactors. But you are not to be like that. Instead, the greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the one who rules like the one who serves. For who is greater, the one who is at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who is at the table? But I am among you as one who serves.
