A native American tribe had an interesting initiation custom. A boy who was coming-of-age would be taken miles into a dense forest to spend the night alone, far from the comforts of his tribe. Prowling wolves, hooting owls, nearby snapping twigs must have terrified the boy as he endured a sleepless, horrifying night. Finally, at sunrise, as he looked around, he spotted his father standing nearby, armed with bow and arrow. His father had been there throughout the night, unseen and silent, guarding and protecting his son who was oblivious to his presence. In our crisis times, we tend to think that God is far removed from us, and we are alone. His silence might be misinterpreted as indifference, but our God is always present in the lives of His children, ready to help us endure our trials. God never leaves or forsakes us, despite what our feelings may say. God’s constant presence in our lives is His faithful promise.
Hebrews 13:5b NIV
. . . God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”
