Read Proverbs 27:5-6 (https://bit.ly/39Ze2eH)
No one enjoys criticism and correction. But the wise person recognizes we all need it sometimes. We want the pat on the back, but to be better at whatever we do, we need to accept the suggestions and advice. We all want to win the contest, but the coach’s job is to tell us what we’re doing wrong so we can improve. I’ve come to recognize that I have a problem receiving such correction when I have placed my identity in that thing – my writing, my job, my hobby – and I feel the correction is an attack on me personally. Not so! My identity is in Christ: redeemed, loved, adopted, secure. When I remember that, I can accept the correction in the spirit it is given, simply to make me better at what I do. Remember that the next time that people who love you offer hard advice. You are loved.
