We’ve all heard the saying, “You reap what you sow.” If we are kind to others, others are kind to us. Likewise, in financial matters, if we work diligently, we get paid for our efforts. Unfortunately, the “You can get something for nothing” philosophy is prevalent in our culture. Do you play the lottery but neglect to save for a rainy day? Maybe you expect an inheritance from a rich uncle, or a payout from a lawsuit. We can’t expect a return on our wishful thinking. Those dreams rarely come true. We can’t hang our financial hopes on events we haven’t made an investment in. However, we can expect a return on our labor. We can be diligent to prepare for the future. And the reward, like the wheat turned into flour for bread and the grapes turned to juice and wine, will be sweet.
Proverbs 20:4 NIV
Sluggards do not plow in season; so at harvest time they look but find nothing.
