According to the American Psychological Association, the 2020 election is a “significant source of stress” in the lives of 68 percent of Americans. As if 2020 wasn’t stressful enough, it happened to be an election year as well. In today’s verse, Daniel from the Old Testament is giving praise to God. If you were to go back and read Chapters 1-2, you’d find out that Daniel and his three friends were taken captive from their hometown by a tyrannical king and forced into slavery. At this point, Daniel has been given a task that will result in unsightly death for him and all of his friends if he doesn’t succeed. That sounds stressful. If Daniel can keep the type of perspective he has in verse 21 under his current circumstances, then we can as well – no matter who is president.
Read Daniel 2:19-23
During the night the mystery was revealed to Daniel in a vision. Then Daniel praised the God of heaven and said: “Praise be to the name of God forever and ever; wisdom and power are his. He changes times and seasons; he deposes kings and raises up others. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning. He reveals deep and hidden things; he knows what lies in darkness, and light dwells with him. I thank and praise you, God of my ancestors: You have given me wisdom and power, you have made known to me what we asked of you, you have made known to us the dream of the king.”
